Future Leaders was founded by our Executive Director, Nick Vandennieuwenhof.
During his time at Arizona State University, Nick was elected to serve as Vice President of Policy for the Associated Students. While in this position, Nick helped manage and deliberate a budget consisting of student fees amounting to over one million dollars annually. With such a large responsibility, Nick saw a lack of leadership resources offered to help support students in positions of student government. Nick felt that there should be a leadership organization that helps guide and mentor students to become the best versions of themselves while in office across all colleges and universities.
After moving to Southern California in 2021, Nick founded Future Leaders of California, a non-profit organization aimed at assisting on-campus student leaders and creating a pipeline between students and local business leaders.
We first and foremost identify high-quality student leaders that we believe will have a lasting impact on their community. The students we connect with must meet "The Future Leadership Profile" We identify students through our extensive network of university faculty members, business owners, campus advisors, in-house field teams, inbound applications, and many more.
We then mentor our student leaders during their time on college and university campuses. Mentoring comes in many ways, such as providing leadership training seminars and retreats. We use our resources to help students further develop their on-campus leadership roles by offering free services to our students. These services include professional headshots, resume building workshops, and financial assistance in the form of grants.
It is ultimately becoming increasingly challenging to find a job or career that allows you to stay here in beautiful California. Our mission is to close the gap between students graduating and businesses looking for labor and talent, specifically here in California. We host several events annual where our students will be able to connect with a local and prominent business while learning more from keynote speakers.
